The Unicorn chats to the fellows from Kidnapped By Gypsies about life under lock-down and the release of their song, “Forest Moon”.
Kidnapped by Gypsies is a South African rock band based in Alberton, Johannesburg. The band was formed in 2016 by guitarist Edwin Odendaal and drummer Travis Burrows. Jayson O’Brien joined on bass guitar shortly after, followed by Colleen Helberg on vocals.
The band began performing at live music venues across the Gauteng province the following year and released their debut single, “Lazy Boy” in November, 2017. In 2018, they performed on New Year’s Eve at the Smoking Dragon Festival in the Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal.
By early 2019, Helberg had left the band and ex-Alchemy bassist Craig Pietropaolo was brought in to fill the lead singer position. With a new look and sound, the band took to the stages once again after almost a year in hiatus and a new, completely self-produced single is set for release on 12 June, 2020.
With influences such as Queens of the Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd, the young band flaunt a must-see, energetic, and captivating live music experience.
